The Welsh county of Flintshire was re-created in 1996 when Clwyd was split into three. However, the history of the county dates back to 1284 when it came into being under the Statute of Rhuddlan. Although at that time, the boundaries were quite different.
Castles in Flintshire
Flintshire has four castles: Hawarden Old Castle which dates back to the Iron Age, Caergwrle Castle circa 1277, Ewloe Castle started in 1257 and Flint Castle started 1277.
